Neuton Trimmer/Edger Attachment For CE 6 Lawn Mowers

Neuton Trimmer/Edger Attachment For CE 6 Lawn Mowers Review

Bummer that the previous reviewer had reliability issues with his Trimmer/Edger attachment. I bought mine with my Neuton 6.0 and it's worked fine, so seeing the other review, I felt I should mention how well it actually works.

And the answer is, very well. It's a powerful little trimmer, and the convenience of being able to just throw the switch on the handle of the mower to swap between mowing and trimming can't be beat. I use this to edge, and to hit tall grass/weeds near the dropoffs or fences where the mower "can't cut it."

The only downside is that it's not as easily maneuverable as a hand-held trimmer. Because it's mounted on one side of the mower, you may have to swing the mower around and reverse directions to be able to put the trimmer into the right spot. Not a big deal.

I have a nice gas trimmer as well, but it never gets used as this is so much more convenient, and no messing with gas/oil.

Neuton Trimmer/Edger Attachment For CE 6 Lawn Mowers Feature

  • No tools or extra battery required; put it on or take it off in seconds
  • Turn the Trimmer/Edger on and off with the push of a button on the handle bar
  • Self-feeding cord is always the right length
  • Easily rotates 90 degrees from Trimming mode to Edging mode
  • Gives your lawn a professional look

Not perfect, but it is a time saver - A reader -
I'm not getting rid of my dedicated edger yet but this is a useful accessory for cleaning up borders and fencelines in between dragging out the edger and weed-eater. The edger does have a somewhat limited effective cutting range and to do the edges along the sidewalk I have to lift the rear of the Neuton off the ground to get the cutting cord to work. Even with these limitations I think it is a useful accessory and I'm glad I purchased.

My husband absolutely loves this edger - Morganna Wolf - Pacific NW
He love it because he can turn it its side to edge along concrete or walk ways and the turn it face down to trim down over grown weeds and the with a flip of a switch to back to mowing the lawn.

From the look of it I worried that it would get in the way of mowing but my husband states that he does not find this to be the case at all.

According to him "this is absolutely great! I can mow, edge, and weed wack without having to go to the shed and get out another tool."

update:

My husband has been using this attachment for over 4 months now and consitently on 3 different lawns. It stays attached when he puts it in the mower in the truck to mow a rental property.

Even with all this use and riding along in the back of the truck we have had no problems with this attachment and it still works great.

The mower's great, but forget the trimmer - P'uie - The Wash. DC area
The edger/trimmer is not worth a bean. I used mine once, it broke, they sent me a part. I used it again, it broke, they sent me another part. Once again i tried it, it broke, they sent me a new one. The new one does not work either. I never finished one trimming job with the trimmer.

Their last piece of helpful advise was to send me a piece of circuitry, that I am to install myself. No I'm not. I'm pretty darn good with my hands, but I'm not messing into the circuitry of this thing, ruin my warranty. no way.

I gave up. They were very good about sending new parts, but what good is that when nothing works? No, it's not the user, I've had other string trimmers and never broke any of them. It's a fairly simple device that in theory should work just fine, really don't need to be a rocket scientist to run it. There is obviously something wrong with the circuitry. So frustrating....

FORGET THE TRIMMER!!!

On the bright side, their Mower and battery powered Garden Cart are wonderful. Use mine all the time.

Black & Decker CM1936 19-Inch 36-Volt Cordless Electric Lawn Mower

Black & Decker CM1936 19-Inch 36-Volt Cordless Electric Lawn Mower Review

My riding lawnmower is sitting out in the back with a blue tarp on it and grass growing up around the wheels, and on a three-week waiting list to get into the shop. In Oregon after an April with over 6 inches of rain, that's a bad situation. I'm on a small farm, and the mower is used around the buildings, lawn, and garden paths, about an acre total. The recent oil spill made me really want to get serious about cutting back on gasoline use.

We've had good luck with other Black & Decker products, including a small battery-powered weed whacker that's been so handy for light jobs, and is still going four years later. All the good reviews made me decide to try this one, though it hasn't been out very long. Pro-rated for just three years, (since it will be used much more often than typically), and with the minimal maintenance requirements and no fuel costs, and factoring in a second battery next year, I come up w/ 0./annually. The riding one, pro-rated for ten years, comes to over 0. annually. With either the pastures have to be mowed annually with a tractor anyway, so that cancels out.

Obviously you gotta push, but aren't we all trying to be fit? I can feel a difference after a week! It's work, but not bad. The length of the handle and total length of the unit is more than I envisioned, so all you have to do is lean down on the handle to lift the front wheels a little and it swivels almost in place. I'm 55, female, and 5'2", so just about anybody should be able to maneuver it OK.

Maybe they need better quality control out of the factory? It's odd there have been such different experiences. Mine was a breeze to get going, and I'm mechanically challenged. It took two minutes to get it out of the box, and I was figuring it had to charge overnight, but this one was fully charged, so was mowing ten minutes out of the box. My only two gripes were that we couldn't figure out how to get the grass catcher together, it seems like the cloth part is too small for the frame, but at some point will read the manual on that. The plug that goes into the keyhole when recharging is awkward to get in, maybe because it shares the port with the key. It's easy after a few times, but just wouldn't go in at first.

Could batteries be different quality? Mine charges in seven hours and runs for an hour?! It's probably important to follow instructions and keep it plugged in all the time it's not in use. Helps to do any heavier grass first and finish up with lighter as it's running out of juice.

Mowing capability - I didn't quite believe the person who said he mowed iceplant, but I do now. The blade must be very sharp and fast. This one mowed 2' tall grass in the back part of the garden. It's slow, but does it fine. You can hear it start to overload, so just have to stop and pull it back a bit. On the really thick parts I weedwhacked it first to get the height down, but then the mower had to handle lots of long cut grass lying down. Did fine. It even did OK going over swaths of heavy cut grass that the riding mower had left. I keep it on the highest setting for all this. I'm careful to get any branches, rocks, etc. out of the way before mowing. It's built for light duty and I think could be damaged easily by this sort of thing. It mulches fine. I can't do all the mowing at once even with the riding lawnmower, so have just planned it out in my mind and mow an hour several days a week. No more worrying about getting enough aerobic exercise; I look forward to it.

Will report back if/when there are problems, but so far very pleased. Give it a shot if you think it might work for you. Haven't ever had to use B & D customer service, but it looks like they make every effort to make it work for the consumer.

Second B&D Cordless - Thing Maker Dave - Iowa
I used the original B&D CMM1000 for 12 years without any problems. It needed no maintenance, and even the blade rarely needed sharpening. After all this time, the battery finally wouldn't take a full charge this year, so I decided to put the cost of a new battery (5, it's actually two 12 volts in series) towards a new mower. There weren't many cordless mowers 12 years ago, now there seem to be a bunch, but based on my good experience with the older model I decided go with the CM1936. The CM1936 is a dandy mower, alot like the CMM1000 but with a 36 volt removable battery.

My lot is around 1/3 acre, less the footprint of my house and shed. Alot of starting and stopping and picky mowing around my wife's vegetable beds, flower gardens, etc. The CM1936 mows it all without losing power, which it has plenty of. Starts right up, runs quiet, especially when mulching. A single height adjuster takes care of all the wheels. (Hard to believe there are still mowers that make you adjust each wheel separately.) It's really handy to be able to charge the battery somewhere other than where the mower is stored. This looks to be another no-maintenance mower. Unplug it, mow, plug it back in. What more could you ask for. The only con I can think of is the blade seemed a bit dull out of the box.

Give up that stinky gas mower. Go cordless.

great mower - mark - mass
While researching mowers I discovered the cordless option. Decided on the Black and Decker after seeing that the newest model had dealt with the issues raised in reviews( battery not removable and slipping height adjustment). Received the mower(free shipping!) and it is really great; quiet, powerful, automatically shuts down if you push it into grass it can't handle. W have about a third of an acre and it mows it all in one go. I also like the mulching option which seems to work well. Anyone considering a gas mower should reconsider and look into one of these.

Black & Decker CM1936 Cordless Electric Mower - J. Glover -
I can't say enough about what a great mower this is and how much we like it. The first thing that comes to mind is just how EASY it is to start this mower by simply pushing the start button and engaging the safety handle. No more of the old pull-start mower that was so difficult and frustrating! And, of course, there's no messy gasoline or oil with this mower. The 36-volt battery is easily installed and is easily removed for charging. The battery can be charged while still in the mower, but it works well for us to take it out for charging. As the owner's manual says, the battery should be left plugged in at all times when it's not in use. This will give the longest battery life and will ensure that it's fully charged when you're ready to mow. We have 1.6 acres, and my husband mows the large areas with our Farmall A tractor, but I use our Black & Decker cordless for all of the trim mowing and for areas around our house and around our large, fenced garden. This mower cuts right through the heaviest grass with no problems, and I typically mow for at least two hours or longer with no loss of battery power. The first time I used this mower, I was amazed at just how long I could mow without the battery running down! It can be used as a mulching mower, but we use the grass catcher so that we can add the grass to our compost. The bag works great and is very easy to remove to empty the grass clippings. The height adjustment is unbelievably easy!! Just one handle quickly raises or lowers the mowing deck, so you can make adjustments as needed if you come to an area of high, tough grass. There's much less noise with this mower than with a gas-powered mower, and even though it's not self-propelled, I have found that the mowing is so easy that I don't mind doing the pushing. Honestly, I can say this is by far the BEST hand mower that we've ever used. It has everything we want--ease of operation, excellent cutting, no fumes, no frustrating pull start, and much less noise. Truthfully, I cannot think of one single drawback to this mower. One additional thought: For us, environmental concerns are very important, so we're very happy to have a mower that doesn't use gas or oil. We're transitioning to solar and wind power here at our home, and that will make this a zero carbon emissions mower. If this is something that's important to you, then it's one more reason to consider buying this fantastic mower. My husband and I highly recommend it!

Excellent Mower - T. L. Brown - Spokane, WA
This is my first electric mower. I have a yard that is about 6000 sq. ft. I can mow the entire yard in 20-30 minutes and have no issues with the charge. I do not know how long the charge will last because my small yard does not come close to wearing down the battery. After mowing, the battery recharges in less than an hour. The 2 things I like most is how quiet the mower is and the ability to change the cutting level on all 4 tires with one easy to move lever.

The mower is not self propelled and is a bit heavy to push. If you have a very hilly area to mow this would be a factor. My yard is mostly flat with some small undulations.

Overall, great mower so far.

WORX WG788 19-Inch 36 Volt Cordless 3-In-1 Lawn Mower With Removable Battery & IntelliCut

WORX WG788 19-Inch 36 Volt Cordless 3-In-1 Lawn Mower With Removable Battery & IntelliCut Review

IntelliCut is a TORQUE ON DEMAND system incorporating a dial where by the power to the blade is predicated on the height of the grass. I.e. for normal lawns (or when only 1 inch of turf is to be removed) you can choose STATUS 1 (Quiet Mode) which; acording to Worx is 20% less noise than any of its competitors, otherwise choose STATUS 2 (Power Mode) for dense or overgrown grass. I think this is a brilliant WHY WASTE POWER feature. Also 18,500 square foot on one charge is incredible, acing the opposition by a margin of roughly 3500 to 6500 square feet. However there is an issue with QUALITY CONTROL (Not Quality); which in its static state looks and feel very solid. Nevertheless a damaged (top half) of the contol handle was installed on my unit. And some of the decals are off-center (perfectionist), so 4-Stars. Not to mention the DECEPTION (and a lot of companies do it) of deck dimensions vs. the cutting width that is its a 19-inch deck but the blade (cutting width) is only 18-inches. Now the only thing left is use it for its intended purpose! Thus far it seems highly recommendable. Will update.

I really had high hopes for this... - C. Ward -
This was the first time I actually purchased an item off of an infomercial. I came to amazon, read some reviews, did my homework like I always do. There were mixed reviews as with any product, but I decided to test it out.

I decided to order from the 800 # as I've never done that before, and figured I would see what all they say/offer. From the start to the end it was about a 20-25 minute call. Out of those 20/25 minutes only 5 were taking my information, cc, etc. The rest was nothing but trying to upsell me. They tried to upsell the rapid charger (80.00 iirc), a "trimmings and grass blower", magazine subscriptions, etc. When I would say no, they would drop the price, and go again. I was nice about it, because I know the person on the end is only doing their job, and if they don't they will get fired. So anyway I just kept saying no thanks. They said if I paid the amount in full they would process my order faster, and I would receive expedited shipping, which meant I would receive the product in 7-10 days. The shipping was pretty fast, I received it in about 8 days.

When I opened the box, assembling what little needed to be done, was very easy. I plugged in the charger and put the battery on there. After 6 hours of charging it was ready. I went outside, did a little trimming and edging. After 15 minutes the battery was dead. I thought it must be a fluke since they said you can "trim an entire football field three times" on the infomercial. I charged the battery over night, and started again. Wow it lasted 20 minutes this time. I now see why they want to sell you extra batteries, and the rapid charger.

Other than the fact that this will only run for about 20 minutes, it seems a bit under-powered. What would take a corded/gas trimmer a swipe to cut, this took maybe 5-10 swipes. It's a good concept, and if the battery had lasted longer it would have received 3 or 4 stars, but that just isn't the case.

Overall I suggest buying another trimmer that won't force you to buy 4 batteries, or an 80.00 charger just to trim your grass.

Terrible power! Does NOT self feed line - David M. Blankenship - Alabama
I ordered this product and was very excited due to all the commericials that are ALL OVER the t.v. now. With a fully charged battery, I tried to trim my drive way and it was SO WEAK that I had to go very slow and try to trim a small portion of grass at a time. Also, every 2 minutes I had to stop and pull out the cord of the so called "self feeding line" that supposedly automatically adjusts to the proper length without manual adjustment...WRONG! It was such a dissappointment! Great idea but they didn't have the product to back up what they were advertising. I lost to ship it back, so bascially I paid dollars for a piece of crap and wasted time. DON'T BUY WORX GT!!!!!!!!

Think twice and hard - Donna M. Jones -
After using my edger and blower for 1/2 season and purchasing an extra battery for backup I am completely dissapointed with the lack of power in either unit. I had to replace the battery charger this spring and now neither battery will hold a charge. The unit is good for very small areas but the lack of battery life makes it useless.

Don't bother... - Annette L. Couch-jareb - Charlottesville, VA
I just came in from using my WORX Trimmer, thinking, it can't be as lame as I remember it from last season. Well, it seems my memory is accurate. It starts with a little whir, (little being the operative descriptor here.) It teases its way through the tiniest, thinnest blades of grass, (but don't try to cut more than five blades at a time.) Then about three minutes into your cutting, you'll notice that it's already losing power. I managed to trim 8- four foot beds. It took me about fifteen minutes, (should have taken less than 5) and I had to practically use telekinesis to mow down the last couple and it's so weak after 15 minutes of very SLOW progress, to make it useless.

I can not advise anyone, no matter how environmentally conscious you are, to purchase this trimmer. Just break out a sturdy pair of scissors. It'll go faster.

Automatic Lawnmower Does All the Work for You
The Robomow RM400 is an automatic lawnmower that cuts grass all by itself. This compact, one-blade mowing/mulching system mows on its own within a boundary that you outline with a thin wire (included).

Once you handle the initial wire setup, all you have to do is schedule a program, sit back, relax, and mow! The Robomow RM400 will depart from its Base Station on your chosen days and times, and over the course of a three-day period (of three consecutive mowing sessions), it will mow up to 4,500 square feet.

When it's done mowing, the Robomow RM400 will return to the Base Station for charging until the next scheduled operation. With this mower, you can be your lawn will be maintained, even when you're busy or away from home.

    Eco-Friendly, Wallet-Friendly Choice
Unlike conventional lawn mowers that pollute as much as 40 late-model cars in just one hour of use, Robomow RM400 offers a way to keep your lawn looking great without sacrificing the environment.

The Robomow RM400 doesn't simply cut your grass--it repurposes the clippings through a patented process called grasscycling. The mower cuts grass into fine clippings and disperses the cuttings over the ground. These clippings quickly decompose and release valuable nutrients and water into the soil, resulting in a better-looking lawn. Grasscycling also leads to a deeper, healthier root system that increases your lawn's resistance to disease, drought, and insects, and it reduces the amount of water your lawn needs by as much as 85%.

And because the eco-friendly Robomow RM400 doesn't require gas, oil, tune-ups, or spark plugs, it will save you money.

Safe, Powerful Operation on Any Lawn
In addition to its environmental benefits, the Robomow RM400's blade spins at a speed of 5,800 RPM and offers a mow height of 0.80-3.15 inches. It also has knobby wheels that tackle high grass and sloping or bumpy ground, and it boasts a range of features for safe, efficient operation.

Specifically, user-controlled theft protection, including an alarm system, protects against unauthorized use of the unit, while a tilt sensor stops the blade from rotating when the unit is tilted.

To help guard against the elements, the Robomow RM400 is both UV protected and weatherproof. For an extra measure of assurance, it's also equipped with a rain sensor. If it starts raining when the unit is mowing, the RM400 will immediately return to its docking station.

For added convenience, the Robomow RM400 comes with a perimeter switch that automatically activates the area to be mowed, and a remote control for easy transport of the mower from the garage to the lawn and between plots. The remote is also great for manually mowing very narrow areas.

    Dimensions and Warranty Information
The Robomow RM400 measures 20.5 x 12.0 x 25.0 inches (WxHxD) and weighs just 39 pounds. It is backed by a two-year warranty on the unit and a one-year warranty on the battery.

    Toro 20360 e-Cycler 20-Inch 36-Volt Cordless Electric Lawn Mower

Toro 20360 e-Cycler 20-Inch 36-Volt Cordless Electric Lawn Mower Review

Ladies, before I got this Toro e-Cycler, I had never, ever, ever cut the grass before . . . never, ever, ever . . . not even once. (Maybe just like you. ) This probably goes back to high school, when one of the girls in my neighborhood told me her father had cut off two of his fingers, while cutting the grass. Not being a brave child, I internalized what she said, and forever saw a lawn mower as being totally dangerous! (Not to mention, you can always find a guy to cut the grass for you.)

I decided, however, it was high time to overcome this childhood fear. I heard that electric lawn mowers were easier for females to use, due to the cord thing you have to pull to start gas lawn mowers. Yes, that is a sexist observation, but I'm afraid I do have weak arm muscles. (Maybe just like you.) Thus, electric was the way to go. The e-Cycler is also only a 20-inch lawn mower. And it is quite pretty! It's bright red with a deep black grass bag. I would have preferred hot pink, but I don't think Toro makes hot pink lawn mowers.

Okay, ladies... when Amazon ships these lawn mowers, they use UPS, and the UPS guy will be quite happy to put your big lawn mower box in the garage for you. It comes almost totally assembled. All you have to do is unfold the handles and tighten the handle knobs by hand. If you want to do this yourself, do it right away before any guys see the box. Yes, to many guys, a big Toro box is like a big Christmas present with a big bow on it. They will be fighting over who gets to open the box and assemble the lawn mower.

Next, it is VERY important to read the directions, especially all the safety warnings. And it was worse than I feared! Not only can you lose fingers or toes while cutting the grass, objects can shoot out from under the lawn mower, and injure or kill you, children, pets or innocent bystanders. I'm not joking! Even a worn grass bag can "result in serious personal injury or death to the operator or bystanders". You're suppose to wear shoes, long pants, safety glasses and no jewelry, while cutting the grass. Today, when I cut the grass for the first time, it was very hot, so I'm afraid I wore shorts instead of long pants. I also had no safety glasses, so that was out, too. (Of course, though, if my friend in high school had told me her father was blinded while cutting the grass, I would have run right down to the hardware store and bought safety glasses!)

Starting the lawn mower was very easy. You just put the key in the key slot, and pull out a plastic lever on the handle, which turns on the lawn mower. When you let go of the lever, the lawn mower turns off in three seconds. What could be easier? I first checked the lawn for rocks, sticks and baby bunnies, and then just pulled out the lever. After pushing it for approximately 60 seconds, one of my neighbors suddenly appeared , with her dog on a leash, just a couple of feet away from me, and announced: "It is quiet!" Totally shocked someone was standing so close to me and my operating lawn mower, I just stared at her at first, but then asked: "Do you mean the lawn mower?" She replied: "Yes, it's very quiet." Okay! Ladies . . . if you are looking for a quiet lawn mower, this is the one to get, according to my lovely neighbor, who along with her dog, wasn't injured or killed by me and my operating lawn mower.

Mowing right along, I discovered cutting grass is a lot like vacuuming, only it takes more arm strength. It's actually sort of like a cardio workout, too. Instead of feeling tired after cutting the grass, I actually felt energized. Yes, ladies . . . it's good exercise! And it will build up your arm muscles! In the fall, you can also use it to mulch all the pretty leaves in your yard, too, when they are no longer pretty. Then, after the yard cutting season is over, the directions say you can store your Toto for three months, without recharging it. I guess that means in the dead of winter, if you have a winter where you live, you are going to have to recharge it every three months. You also much recharge the battery after cutting the grass every time. But, hey, there's no gas to buy or spill, and no gas cord thing that needs yanking! Also, remember to sweep off the surface of the lawn mower after each use, and check the blade area for anything caught up in the blade. And don't listen to any guy who tells you to wash it down with a hose! It's electric . . . and the coolest, easiest lawn mower a girl could get!

More power than suggested. - T. Fain - Massachusetts, USA
I bought this mower after a lot of research and reading reviews. Based on those I figured I'd probably have to do my lawn in two different days with a recharge in between...the local dealer even warned me as much...not a chance. I have a much larger lawn than reviews suggest you can cut and it made it through with left over power to spare. The only complaint is a little uneven cut in a few spots...that didn't go away slowing down or even with a second pass, just not as crisp as a gas mower. The blade doesn't seem to create as much upward lift to pull grass up and even. But, overall I'm more than sold and very happy to cut down on the noise, gas, fumes, etc.

Fantastic Deal and Item - Carol -
It is always a pleasure doing business on Amazon. I have never had a bad deal in all my many purchases. When there is a problem they respond and correct is right away. The corless lawn mower has made me life so much easy. Receive quick updated emails and arrived supper quick. Don't ever worry about purchasing on this site. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Mixed Feelings - Catman - Oregon, USA
The Toro was purchased to replace a 5 year old Neuton. The Neuton worked but the less said about it's mulching performance the better. Toro has a good reputation and the E-Cycler's mulching capability was rated favorably. After 4 mowings or our modest urban lawn, I agree that it mulches very well. Overall I have mixed feelings towards this mower. In spite of Toro's claims, it's a heavy machine and pushing it even on a modest slope is not easy. I mentioned this to my wife who thought I was exagerating. She managed 20 feet on level ground before giving it back.

Another thing I've noticed; the blade dulls quickly. Possibly mine was not properly heat treated but two mowings of our rye grass lawn in mulch mode is enough to dull the edge. I haven't tried bagging but expect it would stay sharp longer. Lastly, it has a lot of vibration, much more than the old Neuton. It is a more powerful machine so maybe that's normal? I emailed Toro's help line and they advised to take it to a repair center but didn't offer any advice on how much vibration to expect. I haven't taken it in so far, assuming the local repair center has yet to see one and wouldn't know how much is normal. Blade balance, tracking and shaft runout seem good but that's the limit of my trouble shooting ability.

I do like the cordless electric idea. No gas to store, no oil to change, no air filter to clean. It does mow and mulch quite well but there are some definite drawbacks. Lead acid batteries are what really hold back the current crop of cordless electric mowers. Lithum Ion batteries could cut perhaps 20 pounds off the weight but are currently price prohibitive. Until they or even better batteries become more affordable using this mower is, at least, a good workout.

Excellent mower: Review and a few tips... - Karen - Connecticut, U.S.
I bought this mower based on Consumer Reports recommendation. When it arrived, the grass was very tall due to spring rains -- I was concerned the mower wouldn't get through it effectively -- however, it cut through tall and thick grass without any problems! I also worried the battery might not last long enough to cut both front & back yard lawns, but not a problem -- I just charge it after each time I mow.

Because I don't like to apply lawn chemicals, I use the mulch function. When mulching, it's easier to push the mower in thick grass if the front wheels are raised 2 notches higher than the back wheels (each wheel can be independently adjusted). The mower also cuts well when being pulled (backward) -- just be sure to pull the mower smoothly so that the plastic safety bar (back, bottom end of mower) doesn't fold under the mower.

It's fairly quiet, much quieter than gas-powered mowers. This is important to me as I live in a neighborhood with long, narrow lots -- my neighbors' houses are close to mine (and my yard).

Worth mentioning, this is the only lawn equipment I've ever had shipped to me. As another reviewer mentioned, the lawn mower comes fully-assembled -- you'll just pull back the handle, tighten the handle screws (no tools required), charge it, and you're ready to mow!

Earthwise 60120 20-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Lawn Mower Review

I've used three different cordless mowers, but not this one. I Have the 20" Toro with 36 volts which works very well and a 19"/24V B&D, which I found to be adequate 80% of the time - with only 24V it struggled with tall grass. On paper the Earthwise looks pretty good on features but may fall short in power

I've put a quick guide of the most popular models on Amazon. All info reported by manufacturer. Amazon won't let me put prices in my review, sorry!

    >>Why SHOULD I get a cordless electric mower? They are super quiet, clean, and convenient. They aren't necessarily cheaper than a gas mower since they cost more up front but there is almost NO maintenance. (We spent over 10 years for a set of replacement batteries.) Corded electric mowers are a lot cheaper but then you have a cord.

    >>Why SHOULDN'T I get a cordless mower? They weigh a LOT more than gas mowers so if you have a hilly lot or have difficulty with physical exertion, forget it. They don't have as much power as gas and re-fueling means charging for a few hours so if your lot is over ½ acre you may want to reconsider.

    >>Why do they all come with mulching PLUS bagging? Electric powered mowers have come a long ways but mulching still takes a LOT more power than discharging, so bagging is pretty much a standard feature.

    >>What is a watt-hour? It's basically how big your gas tank is - the more watt-hours, the longer you can mow before you have to recharge.

    >>Is the cutting path a big deal? Yes - for two reasons. 1) The first thing manufacturers do when power is marginal is reduce the blade size, so I tend to see the smaller mowers as more likely to be underpowered. Second, when you consider that you have to overlap each pass by ~3", a 20" blade now effectively cuts 13% more on each pass. If you have a larger yard, you definitely do NOT want anything under 18" Also, my measurements show most mowers overstate their blade size by 1/2" (Our 20" measures 19-5/8, our 19 measures 18-1/2)

    >>Why might I want a removable battery? If you have a large yard, this means you can have a second battery charging while you are using the first. A second battery typically costs 0-0 but it can make the difference between going electric or not. Finally, if you keep the mower in a shed that doesn't have power, a removable battery will let you bring it in for charging.

    >>How long will my batteries last? That depends on your climate and usage. We had a small lot for many years and were religious about recharging right after use. We also live in a cooler climate (Michigan) so the mowing season is shorter. Our batteries lasted about 7 years. Most people should get 3-4 years easily but if you're careless and live in Arizona, you could probably kill the batteries in a year or two.

    >>Why should I care about higher voltage? Higher voltage = more power, PLUS you can recharge the mower faster. With the same chemistry and current, a 36V mower will charge 50% faster than a 24V mower.

    >>Metal deck or plastic? Metal rusts but with minimal care it's not an issue. Plastic ends up giving you a more stuff to trim since you can't cut as close to fences, etc.

If you've found this review helpful or have questions/comments, please let me know!

Flimsy construction, dying batteries - jkternes - Goodlettsville, TN United States
This mower worked fine for a 1/2 season of mowing.

After 1/2-season of mowing, one of the (plastic!) rear wheels collapsed. I replaced that and then the rear axle on the other side snapped off later the same day! It took several months to get a replacement rear axle. The overall quality of materials and construction is poor. The metal deck is suspiciously thin and I would not be surprised to have an axle snap again. I do not expect this mower to last more than 3 or 4 seasons of regular use.

The batteries are the worst part. I have two batteries. When new, a battery would mow about 1/4 acre. I am halfway into the second season and one of the batteries will not hold a full charge (only two green lights come on) and the yellow indicator light comes on after just a few passes. The other battery is holding a full charge but does not seem to do a full 1/4 acre any more.

I do not expect batteries to last forever but I would expect them to last more than one year. I usually remember to remove the charger after 24 hours but it does not always happen. The lack of a smart charger is another indication of the poor quality of this product.

Can I say anything good about this mower? Certainly. The height adjustment is very easy. And when the battery is charged, it does a great job of mulching.

works good, could be better if it was self propelled. easy to put to use and arrived on time. will purchase similiar items

Good INITIAL quality, but then... - Captain Solar - Hillsboro, OR
This is the third cordless electric mower I have owned. The first was a wonderful Ryobi that reached the end of its expected lifespan. The next was a robotic mower, which was neat until the cost of replacing a part was grounds to sell it as scrap. The third was the Homelite mower.

At first, it was fine, being as good as other cordless electrics, suitable for 3000 square feet of lawn or so. After a year, its charger broke. The manufacturer got a new one to me pretty quickly, but that still never should have happened. 13 months after, which is a month after the 2-year warranty expired, the handle broke.

That is pathetic: the little handle you hold to keep the motor running snapped off, because it is plastic and swings out at 90 degrees, whereas the Ryobi (and most gas mowers) has a long metal bar that gets squeezed vertically rather than a small handle. Who knew this would be the downfall?

It's out of warranty (not that an extended one had ever been offered), so all Home Depot can do is ship it off for me, and then there will be a charge from the manufacturer. I imagine the charge will be over 0, and the mower cost 0, plus I have to rent or buy something else for the several weeks that this mower will be unavailable to use.

And it still is not as good as the Ryobi that I bought 12 years earlier.

Ryobi stopped making mowers for a while, but now they are back. I am going back to Ryobi.
