Greenworks 25222 20-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Lawn Mower with Removable Battery

Greenworks 25222 20-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Lawn Mower with Removable Battery Review

I had no trouble unpacking and assembling this mower, followed the simple directions in manual. Charged the battery as described in manual. Next day, I went to start the mower and had trouble with depressing the start button and bail switch, couldn't get it to start. Called the Company and had no trouble getting a person (9 am - 5 pm, MON-FRI). Extremely helpful and knowledgable about the product, gave me the right answer to my problem. Problem being that the bail switch was not fully open and was not releasing the start button. I gave the bail switch a good pull to open it and pressed the start button and sqeezed the bail and it started right up. I mowed the front and back yard with no problem, it worked beautifully! And let me tell you, it feels really good (Liberating) to be weaning myself off of gasoline (electric bike is next on my wish list). As for the weight of the mower, actually a little lighter than my ex-gas mower and easier to maneuver around. All-around well built, easy to use, and good looks for the price! I'm very happy with my purchase!

Runs well a bit on the heavy side and watch out for shipping - Bernard Goedde - Everett, WA United States
Runs well and quiet. Operated it twice so it's still being field tested in my eyes. Issues are: it's heavy especially w/the battery so I would not recommend it for someone of petite size. Also, it was slightly damaged when I received it. I had to fix up the height adjuster since it was jammed due to being damaged. Other than that hoping to use it for the 4 years that it's warrantied for... Support independence from oil by buying one of these!

Musle builder, NOT for whimps! - Lulu - Ammon, ID United States
Hi. Yes I am a whimp. Remember: This is HEAVY. I refused the shipment when I realized this one DOES NOT have the self propelled feature. I went with the 18" and LOVE it because it is self propelled but easy to drop the lever when I need to make turns.

Can't get a hold of anyone from the company! - Fellow Consumer -
Was looking at buying one of these mowers because of the good reviews on the self propelled model so went to the company website and submitted a few questions to the sales email address. Waited a day and no reply. Submitted the same questions to the info email address and the sales email address again. Another day and no reply. If no reply when they are trying to get my business not sure what would happen if I already bought one and wanted warranty support. Read the warranty on the company website. Note it says anything broken from normal wear and tear is not covered! I can see abuse not being covered but if you use the mower normally and it breaks and it is not covered, what good is the four year warranty?
UPDATE: Waited another day - no reply to either email. Called customer service number on website. After a few machine messages I was put on hold. I am typing this update while listening to their musac. I just hung up after being on hold for seven minutes twenty seconds. Does this company has any USA people working i.e. maybe it is an offshore company with a USA address to add credibility. I can't buy the product if I can't communicate with the company. Try contacting the company for yourself before making your purchase. Good Luck!

Neuton CE 5.4 14-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Mulching/Bagging Lawn Mower with Removable Battery

Neuton CE 5.4 14-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Mulching/Bagging Lawn Mower with Removable Battery Review

Summary: If you have a very small yard (Perhaps 1000-1500 square feet of lawn) this could be a decent compromise for you, otherwise I don't think the 14" path and limited battery capacity will "cut it"

My neighbor has this one from a couple of years ago and I tried it out. It's smaller, lighter and quieter than the two cordless mowers we've used but that 14" path would probably be a dealbreaker for most people. When you consider that you will overlap each pass by at least 2-3 inches, you're really only cutting 10-11 inches on each pass.

+ Easy to maneuver
+ Quiet
+ Small
+ Super light compared to our B&D CM1100 or Toro, both of which weigh about twice as much

- 14" path!?!?!
- Pricey for what you get
- Hard to cut near obstacles

I've put a quick guide of the most popular models on Amazon. All info reported by manufacturer. Amazon won't let me put prices in my review, sorry!

>>Why SHOULD I get a cordless electric mower? They are super quiet, clean, and convenient. No fumes or exhaust- because gas mowers don't have catalytic converters, they can pollute as much in a year as 43 cars!!!!. They aren't necessarily cheaper than a gas mower since they cost more up front but there is basically NO maintenance. (We spent over 10 years for a set of replacement batteries.) Corded electric mowers are a cheaper but having a cord is a pain.

>>Why SHOULDN'T I get a cordless mower? They weigh a LOT more than gas mowers so if you have a hilly lot or have difficulty with physical exertion, forget it. They don't have as much power as gas and re-fueling means charging for a few hours so if your lot is over ½ acre you may want to reconsider.

>>Why do they all come with mulching PLUS bagging? Electric powered mowers have come a long ways but mulching still takes a LOT more power than discharging, so bagging is pretty much a standard feature.

>>What is a watt-hour? It's basically how big your gas tank is - the more watt-hours, the longer you can mow before you have to recharge.

>>Is the cutting path a big deal? Yes - for two reasons. 1) The first thing manufacturers do when power is marginal is reduce the blade size, so I tend to see the smaller mowers as more likely to be underpowered. Second, when you consider that you have to overlap each pass by ~3", a 20" blade now effectively cuts 13% more on each pass. If you have a larger yard, you definitely do NOT want anything under 18" Also, my measurements show most mowers overstate their blade size by 1/2" (Our 20" measures 19-5/8, our 19 measures 18-1/2)

>>Why might I want a removable battery? If you have a large yard, this means you can have a second battery charging while you are using the first. A second battery typically costs 0-0 but it can make the difference between going electric or not. Finally, if you keep the mower in a shed that doesn't have power, a removable battery will let you bring it in for charging.

>>How long will my batteries last? That depends on your climate and usage. We had a small lot for many years and were religious about recharging right after use. We also live in a cooler climate (Michigan) so it's cooler and the mowing season is shorter. Our batteries lasted ~7 years. Most people should get 3-4 years easily but if you're careless and live in Arizona, you might be able to kill the batteries in a year or two.

>>Why should I care about higher voltage? Higher voltage = more power, PLUS you can recharge the mower faster. With the same chemistry and current, a 36V mower will charge 50% faster than a 24V mower.

>>Metal deck or plastic? Metal rusts but with minimal care it's not an issue. Plastic ends up giving you a more stuff to trim since you can't cut as close to fences, etc.

poor battery life - Verlyn R - Camano Island, WA United States
I have a 5.? mower and cannot keep the battery working for more than 1 season. I store the battery per manufacturers suggestion (which has changed over the years) but still have to buy a battery every year. That's fairly expensive. I won't buy another. My mower is going to the dump and the batteries I've collected to the recycle.

Neuton CE5 has a bit more power than my corded Black & Decker had - C. D Smith - Denver, CO
We got this mower at an [...] mower trade in event. We didn't have a gas mower to trade in so we paid 5 for this mower. (We are giving our old B&D electric away to our dog sitter). I paid 9 for the B&D electric and it always had trouble with the higher grass. The Little Neuton CE5 has a bit more torque than the B&D ever had. The cutting path is quite a bit smaller at 14 inches, however, my wife keeps re-claiming more and more yard and turning it into garden so the 1500 or so square feet of lawn we have left is easily mowable with this little puppy. Set up was easy. I took the battery and charger into the back porch and had it charging while I assembled the mower. The battery wasn't fully charged after set up, but after about 4 hours on the charger (the manual said it could take 8 to 14 hours to fully charge), the light on the charger changed from red to green indicating the battery was fully charged. Even with all the rain and foot high grass (which would require a couple passes with any mower), going through that mostly dry foot high grass was easier with the Neut than with the B&D.

The "Prius" mower - J. Calhoun - Worthington, OH USA
I have the previous version of this mower, now 8 years old, and it finally died. The original batteries are still going, and I can still trim. We are rather rough on mowers (previous record: 3 years on a gas mower), but until last year, you could get any part to repair it. All mowers will need maintenance, but overall this has been much cheaper to operate and repair. I am ordering this version to replace it, which has been out a few years, and it is mostly the same as mine. Mine is the first version sold.

If you use up all the juice in one battery, just slip another one in. I can mow my small yard and do all the trimming and still have juice left over on one battery. I can mow on Sunday morning and not disturb anyone (you can talk in a low voice and be heard while mowing). You can pick it up with one hand. I mulch my leaves with it. The trimmer is the best one I have ever had.

Like all electric mowers, it requires a certain philosophy to be successfull (the "Prius" thing). I use the entire width and do not overlap rows, leaving a 4" mowhawk. Then I go back and mow that. You cannot walk too fast over the wet or extra thick parts. With this method, it is as fast and as thorough as my last 5 1/2 hp gas mower. You need to keep the batteries charged, but not on the charger all of the time. If you are not willing to make adjustments like this, you will be happier with a gas mower. The 36 volt version is more powerful, and so is a corded electric, but for small yards, this is fine.

Neuton Battery Electric Lawn Mower

Neuton Battery Electric Lawn Mower Review

I have had a Neuton for many years (6 or 7?). I have the small, red model. Believe me, this little mower has taken a beating from my "yard" (think clumps of weeds) and I think I finally killed it this year - but it may just need a new battery; I'm still using the original battery that came with it. By the way, the battery charges faster out of the mower.
This is a great product, and their customer service is fabulous.
When I first started using it, people would come over, as I was mowing, to see what I was doing. Because they couldn't hear anything (over the normal neighborhood noise), I guess they thought I was pushing a toy mower around for fun :-} And I don't mind the narrow cutting width, this is my exercise. It's good for me to walk the yard.
I keep hoping my neighbors will take the hint and buy one, but unfortunately most of them live by "if it makes a lot of noise, it must be doing a better job".
And, about wet grass sticking to the underside, someone told me to use a silicone spray on the underside. I don't have any more grass sticking to the underside than when I had a gas mower. Wet grass sticks to anything! I use a dish brush to clean the underside.
I found that about halfway through the summer, it's a good idea to take the top off the mower (maybe you can't do this on the newer ones?) and clean out all the dried bits that seem to collect around the motor, wires and circuit board. After loosening clumpy debris with a stick, I turn it on its side (take the battery out first and it's lighter) and get as much out as I can. If any is left, I use a small hand vacuum. Just enough power to get stuff out, but not damage anything. You'd be surprised how much lighter the mower is without all that in there.
A couple years back I had a problem with a wiring connection to the circuitboard, so I just hardwired the motor to an on/off switch on the handle and that solved the problem. I always found it awkward holding the safety handle anyway.
By the way, I fold it up and store it vertically, in a corner, in my laundry room, in the winter. Couldn't do that with a gas mower.
Can you tell I love this mower?

June 30: I bought a new battery and the mower is working as hard as it ever did!

Neuton Battery Electric Lawn Mower Feature

  • Starts instantly.
  • Battery powered so No gas. No Oil. No fumes.
  • Super lightweight.
  • Stores in a closet.

Neuton Battery Electric Lawn Mower Overview

Put away your noisy, gas-powered hand-held trimmer and discover the easier way to trim and edge your entire property. Unlike hand-held trimmers you have to carry, the NEUTON Cordless Electric Trimmer rolls easily along the ground on two 10" wheels. This eliminates all the strain on your arms, neck and shoulders, and makes trimming a joy, not torture. Starting the NEUTON Trimmer is just as easy as using it. With a gentle squeeze of the handlebar the machine springs to life, using a rechargeable battery that provides up to 1 hour of quiet trimming. At 35 lbs., the lightweight NEUTON Cordless Electric Trimmer is remarkably easy to maneuver, gliding up hills and over bumpy terrain to trim precisely around trees, shrubs, lamp posts, and all the hard-to-reach spots in your yard. It's an edger, too! With a simple twist, the NEUTON's trimmer head pivots to a 45 or 90 degree angle, so the nylon cords cut vertically, for edging right down to ground level. It is the perfect way to cut a clean edge along walks, drives, and planting beds. With a NEUTON Trimmer, your yard work will become easy, a pleasure...and never again a chore. Features: Arrives fully assembled. Easy to store on a shelf or in a closet. Includes three cord spools and battery charger.

Two year's experience has made me sorry I bought this model - John J. Neglia - Noorhern NJ
Positive features:
1-No air polution
2-Folds up and can be tilted up against a garage wall so the "footprint" is about 24" x 8"
3-Probably a better than average warranty, but keep in mind that if you decide to send it back, your cheapest shipping charge will be around

Negative features
1-Does not pick up leaves well. I had a craftsman gas powered mower that was like a "leaf vacuum" the Neuton picks up about 30% of what the Craftsman did
2-The plastic tires make it very clumsly to negotiate around trees and bumpy lawns. If you have a very flat lawn, this is not an issue.
3-After two seaons of moderate use, the battery will not last long enough to complete 5,000 sq ft
4-If you pull up on the handle (in order to get the mower over an obstacle, it creaks and eventually bends and then begins to split around the screws. I have repaired this handle by taking it apart and reinforcing it with a sheet steel strip inside and then using duck tape around it.

I can supply pictures and videos

Too Much for Too Little - J. Cuddeback -
Summary:
I bought my C5 mower through a special offer from our electric utility at $[...] delivered. In my opinion it is it is almost worth that amount, but at $[...] it is way overpriced for what it can do. If you want to do anything more than cut grass slowly, go with a gas mower.

Pros:
Light, no gasoline or oil, minimal maintenance, easy start, quiet, well constructed.

Cons:
Poorly designed handle, cut is only fair, mulches poorly, mediocre bagging, bag is small, narrow cut, overpriced, poor battery life.

The Bottom Line:
Buy it if you have small clean yard and the price is less than $[...]. It will work. Do not get the trimmer, a separate one is much more versatile.

Tips:
The battery is pricey from DR [..]. You can find UB12100 batteries online that will end up costing about half what your pay from DR. You need two UB12100 batteries and a #15 torx driver to change out the batteries in the case that comes with the mower (I do not know for sure but I would guess that the C6 takes 3 batteries). The savings is about [..].

This mower cuts grass and that is about all. It does cut St. Augustine grass, but with no particular distinction. It does not cut as well as a good gas mower but it will compete with an average mower to merely cut grass. It does not mulch well and leaves fairly large pieces of leaves and noticeable grass clippings. If the yard is leaf free, after using the mulch attachment it looks OK. It does not bag the leaves very well and there remains a significant amount of residue. The wheels are not offset enough and the plastic body rather thick preventing close mowing against fences and walls. The hand grip is poorly designed and requires a healthy grip and good size hands to keep the mower from constantly turning motor on and off increasing the battery drain significantly.

It is light and easy to maneuver even on a slope or over curbs. Since it is electric there are no gas cans, carburetor, no oil changes, no smell in the garage and no problem starting it. It is blessedly quiet. For those features alone it may be worthwhile. However, on the downside if it needs a new battery every year at $[...] from DR, you have to weigh the cost of that silence.

It's a Love-Hate relationship - Mike Opinion - Sacramento
I've had my Neuton for a full season now, and I definitely have a love-hate relationship with it. I purchased it via the local utility's gas trade-in for a very good price. First the pros:
It's light and easily manueverable. I have a few hills to get up, and this mower makes it easy.
It's very quite; I really think the world could use a little less machine noise, and this is the quietest power mower.
I've had no problem with enough battery power; I mow about 2000 sq ft without any sign of power loss.
No cord; I hate cords. Unroll, roll, unroll, roll. They catch on everything.
No gas motor, no gas emissions; very important to me in this day and age.

The Cons:
Very narrow cutting path. I bet I don't get more than 8" cut at a time. And the cutting area does not extend to outside the wheels, making it difficult to see where to line up the next swath.
Because the blade is so short, the cutting area on the blade is very small, which adds to the need to go over the same area multiple times.
The mower misses a lot of grass. I always end up with single long blades of grass sticking up everywhere. Given that I probably mow every square inch 3 times, it's very frustrating.

Bottom line, I wouldn't buy this mower again, even at the low price paid. Even though I probably still save time over my corded mower since I don't deal with the cord, it doesn't do an adequate job.

Battery is worthless - M. D. Mendelson - Sacramento, CA USA
I traded an old gas powred mower in for a Neutron when SMUD had a trade-in program last summer. I got one season out of the battery and now it will not hold a charge. The mower itself is flimsy and I will not purchase another one again. Sad because I believe in zero-emissions products.

Excellent back up for REALLY big jobs - Morganna Wolf - Pacific NW
Bought this in addition to the battery that came with the Neuton but so far even though we are mowing two lawns each time we mow we have not had to use an additional battery. Just for piece of mind though I think the extra battery is well worth the investment.

WORX WG788 19-Inch 36 Volt Cordless 3-In-1 Lawn Mower With Removable Battery & IntelliCut

WORX WG788 19-Inch 36 Volt Cordless 3-In-1 Lawn Mower With Removable Battery & IntelliCut Review

IntelliCut is a TORQUE ON DEMAND system incorporating a dial where by the power to the blade is predicated on the height of the grass. I.e. for normal lawns (or when only 1 inch of turf is to be removed) you can choose STATUS 1 (Quiet Mode) which; acording to Worx is 20% less noise than any of its competitors, otherwise choose STATUS 2 (Power Mode) for dense or overgrown grass. I think this is a brilliant WHY WASTE POWER feature. Also 18,500 square foot on one charge is incredible, acing the opposition by a margin of roughly 3500 to 6500 square feet. However there is an issue with QUALITY CONTROL (Not Quality); which in its static state looks and feel very solid. Nevertheless a damaged (top half) of the contol handle was installed on my unit. And some of the decals are off-center (perfectionist), so 4-Stars. Not to mention the DECEPTION (and a lot of companies do it) of deck dimensions vs. the cutting width that is its a 19-inch deck but the blade (cutting width) is only 18-inches. Now the only thing left is use it for its intended purpose! Thus far it seems highly recommendable. Will update.

WORX WG788 19-Inch 36 Volt Cordless 3-In-1 Lawn Mower With Removable Battery & IntelliCut Feature
